Travel Finsbury Park

We have successfully applied for funding for a bike project which aims to engage some of the worshippers at the Muslim Welfare House on Seven Sisters Road. The money (almost 5K) will be used to
- provide the youth groups 'Bikeability' training
- pay for a bike pool
- create bike storage and
- pay for cycle maintenance teaching
The funding comes from Transport for London and the London Cycling Campaign and we're really looking forward to be delivering this project.

AKA Springpark Orchard: April 2010
Springpark Drive neighbours along with children from Woodberry Down Children's Centre turned out to work in beautiful sunny weather and we shared a real sense of achievement. We planted four apple trees, four cherry trees, two grape vines (thanks Capital Growth), some herbs (thanks Sue) and a load of soft fruits taken from cuttings last Autumn (thanks Poppy). We did this over two afternoons and it was absolutely brilliant project to take part in.

Jamboree, Finsbury Fruits

Steamy compost, soft topsoil, digging, pruning, mixing, forking…
apple trees, blackcurrant bushes, raspberry canes, thornless blackberries…
kids sifting soil, little wellies stomping, stomping, stomping, tiny buckets moving earth, yellow plastic trowels…
filled bagels, jam tarts, tea and more and more tea…
greengage, Victoria plum, one lone chokeberry, towers of rhubarb…
arms moving shovels, legs moving barrows, hands sifting earth…
a quiet chat, a little joke, a time to learn and listen…

Parkwood: March 17th 2010

Following on from the successful gardening event last May, we thought we'd add in a skill building activity: knitting. What a good move! Ann and Hannah from the growing group along with mums from the school, Nuran and Gulsum, soon got the school children thoroughly hooked.
