Here is a write up of the workshop.
MARCH 2010
map1We fitted 12 people into Marianne and Yev's beautifully refurbished Green Lens Studio on Atterbury Road. First we watch all of the new films made in the area to show different people's perspectives of what is important in the area. Then we each sat down in groups and created two imaginative maps of Finsbury Park. These maps show how we see the Finsbury Park area now and how we think it could change in future. I found it a pretty inspiring experience as did everyone else - so we thought it might be a good idea to try to export the map making idea into local cafes and centres.

FEBRUARY 2010
Transition Finsbury Park has organised a public workshop called “Welcome to Finsbury Park” on the 23rd of March at the Green Lens Studios. N4 locals are invited to contribute in a big survey about our neighbourhood using videos and maps.
Submit videos of places that matter in the neighbourhood
A place can be a building, a street, a park, a garden, a shop, any location that is important to you and the local life. All the videos will be published online and will be screened at the workshop.
Making a video is easy:
- No need for expensive equipment. You can use your mobile phone if you like, or a digital compact or video-camera – it’s up to you.
- Make your videos so they are less than one minute long.
- Put yourself in front of the camera to welcome the viewers to the place you want to share. Or you can stay behind the camera if you want – get as creative as you want to (see the Welcome to My Place collaborative video resource).
- You can do it in front of the camera, from behind or just by adding text to the images, whatever you feel the most comfortable with. Don’t be afraid to be creative!
- We can help you out in creating your video if you need it and allow you the opportunity to edit a video montage of your work.
- You are welcome to either upload it onto Vimeo yourself or we can put it online on our Transition Finsbury Park Vimeo for you.
After making your film we invite you to collaborate with the rest of your neighbourhood to draw a series of creative maps. On the night you will get to see all the video contributions and to share your perception of the area. A review of the event as well as images of the maps you create together will be published online and inform future activities in the neighbourhood.
The workshop is free but you need to reserve your place before – register here on Facebook, leave us a message or call us at this number if you would like to attend: 07525 058881.
This event is organised by James Thomson from Transition Finsbury Park and Christophe Bruchansky from Curated Matter. It is supported by the newly opened Green Lens Studios.
